Eligibility
All players who meet the below criteria by midnight EST on 31st January are eligible to be bid on:
a) Signed to an MLB club
b) Have not exceeded 130 AB or 50 IP at the MLB level
Most of the top J2 signees have confirmed deals with clubs, and Yusei Kikuchi is now confirmed with the Mariners and so there shouldn't be too much confusion here.
Any posted overseas player or J2 signee for whom you can't provide a link to show their official deal with a club will not be eligible to be bid on, and will pass straight to free agency.
The auction will begin on 1st February - GMs are able to nominate players from 00:01 EST.
Bidding process, rules
To nominate a player, start a thread in the appropriate forum, titled with their:
a) Name
b) MLB team
c) Position
In the body of the post, you should indicate your initial bid for that player's signing bonus. Remember, that each minor leaguer comes with an automatic annual salary of $500k, the signing bonus is in addition to this and is a one-time hit to your 2019 salary cap. For another explanation of this, see the example league spreadsheet.
It is permissible to enter a 'zero bid' for a signing bonus when nominating a player.
Any bid on a player must be at least $100k more than the preceding bid.
Each GM is allowed to nominate upto two players at any time for auction, so we will have a maximum of 40 players active at any one time.
A GM must have at least one active nomination thread running (ie, bidding underway) to be able to bid on any player. This is to ensure that we keep up a reasonable pace with the auction.
For a player to be won, the final bid must remain standing for 24 hours at which point the player will be added to your roster. Bids may not be deleted.
Once your nominated player(s) has officially been won, whether by you or another team, you are then able to nominate another.
Once players have been won, the commissioner will lock the thread and move them to the appropriate part of the forum, updating the league spreadsheet in the process.
Each GM must leave the auction with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 minor leaguers. A reminder that each team must also roster a minimum of 10 minor leaguers at all times. If you sign someone who you expect to promote immediately to your MLB roster you should bear this in mind.
Questions?
How much can I spend?
The total salary available to each GM in LS Dynasty is $100m, which covers both the MiLB signing bonuses and salaries, as well as the MLB auction.
In theory, a minimum of $11.5m must be kept in reserve at the end of the MiLB auction for you to fill your MLB roster with 23 players at league minimum salary, and each team will have a minimum of $5m in salary commitments on their minimum 10 minor leaguers, even if they don't spend a cent on signing bonuses.
I would not imagine that anyone gets anywhere near spending $88m on prospects, but you never know how prospect-heavy some GMs' strategy will be, or how high the bidding will go on certain players.
What happens if the same player is nominated twice/there are duplicate threads?
In the event of duplicate threads for the same player, whichever was posted first will become the default 'official' thread. The commissioner will lock/delete any duplicate threads.
What if someone nominates a player who is not eligible/more players than they are allowed to?
As above - the commissioner will lock/delete threads as appropriate.
Who decides when 24 hours has passed?
That will solely be down to the clock on the forum. Any bid timestamped more than 24 hours after the preceding one will be deleted, and the player awarded accordingly. While it is your prerogative to bid whenever you like, please do your fellow leaguemates the courtesy of keeping those last minute bids to a minimum where possible - obviously life and work get in the way, and you may only be able to check in on the bidding once or twice a day, but it will help keep the auction moving at a reasonable pace if people can be prompt with their bids and nominations.
Can I sign a prospect in the MLB auction who went unsigned in the MiLB version?[/b]
In theory, yes, although the top 250 or so prospects will all be accounted for once this auction is over, so it's somewhat unlikely. That player wouldn't benefit from the standard rolling $500k salary that all minor leaguers receive, however, and would have to be given a fixed term contract along with all the other major league players. They could then be demoted to your minor league roster, assuming you have the space.
How long will this process take?
It's impossible to say with certainty, but a best estimate to assign 200-300 players through this auction process would be somewhere around 2-3 weeks.
As the end of the auction approaches the rule regarding nominating only 2 players per GM may be relaxed to 3 or 4 per team, if the auction has reached a stage where players are routinely being signed with little or no signing bonuses. This will be announced by the commissioner if necessary.
What happens at the end?
Depending on the length of the auction process, there may be a few day's pause between the end of the MiLB portion and the start of the MLB portion. The start date of the MLB auction will be advised as soon as possible to all GMs.
