You can now make any additional free drops from your roster - a reminder that any player with a minors contract (Min) or recently drafted player (DRAFT) can be dropped free of charge. This will remain open through the MLB Auction. Afterwards, (when contract decisions are due), this thread will be closed, marking the end the off-season.
Any other contracts (2023-2027 & FA; FAs in this case will be solely for newly signed players during the MLB Auction) are not allowed to be dropped until after the season begins.
Specifics on drops during the MLB Auction will be clarified in the MLB Auction thread, which will be posted this weekend.

Freudian Nova Alejandro Pie Khalil Lee
Pie & Lee have been dropped. Nova is not eligible to be dropped at this time, as he has a 2025 contract. The current options for him are: - He can be left in the minors throughout 2023 and beyond, unless/until he surpasses 130 ABs.
- He can be dropped during the season for a 50% penalty (which will be $300k in '23, $325k in '24, & $350k in '25, OR ELSE $975k in '23 if paid in full), but the $600k salary for '23 will be removed from your salary cap. This option will be provided for all such players when the season starts.

All of the 'Drop' players listed have been dropped. Hoskins is not eligible to be dropped at this time, as he has a 2024 contract. The current options for him are: - He can be kept on (or traded from) your roster throughout 2024.
- He can be dropped during the season for a 50% penalty (which will be $6.175M in '23 & $6.65M in '24, OR ELSE $12.825M in '23 if paid in full), but the $12.35M salary for '23 will be removed from your salary cap. This option will be provided for all such players when the season starts.

Rainbows want to drop: Kameron Misner Also, unsure if I can drop Jj Bleday or not. His contract shows up weird, it looks like it should be a MIN, but it’s not and I’m not sure why it isn’t. Thanks.

Misner has been dropped. Bleday is not eligible to be dropped at this time, as he has a 2027 contract (he surpassed the rookie limits in 2022 with 204 ABs). The current options for him are: - He can be kept on (or traded from) your roster throughout 2027 (NOTE: he was just demoted, so he does qualify to be placed in the minors until he gets promoted again in real life).
- He can be dropped during the season for a 50% penalty (which will be $250k in '23, $275k in '24, $300k in '25, $325k in '26, & $350k in '27, OR ELSE $1.5M in '23 if paid in full), but the $500k salary for '23 will be removed from your salary cap. This option will be provided for all such players when the season starts.

Drop Sean Hjelle P SF. As much as I'd like to keep the Giants' giant, I'm gonna need some minor league flexibility.

Bleacher Bums DFA Christopher Morel 2B CHC Sir Sports. You are not able to drop players won at auction during the auction or for free. That would be chaos and defeat the point of the auction. Free drops were for minor league players designated as "MIN" or "DRAFT". When Morel is added to your roster he will designated "BID" and you can give him a contact from 1 to 5 years. If your intent is to drop him, assign one year and take the penalty on that.

The draft auction rules read as follows: DFA option At any time, an owner may bid on one more player than they currently have space for on their roster. However, the following must still be observed: a) All bids must be considered as ‘won’ b) All transactions must still result in legal roster placement of players after the auction c) DFA players must first be posted under the ‘2023 Final Free Drops’ section before bidding on additional players If an owner chooses this method, a player must be specifically named & designated for assignment (DFA) in order to make room for the potential acquisition. Later, if the DFA is not needed, as a player was not won at auction, then the designated player can be retracted. No official roster movement will be made until after an auction is confirmed as closed. Eligible players for DFA are limited to those with contracts of ‘Min’ & ‘DRAFT’ only. These are typically always minors-eligible players, and as such, may cause an issue with legal roster placement later on for any players won at auction that cannot be placed in the minors. Please be cognizant of this prior to choosing this option, as otherwise this will be considered as an illegal bid for any/all bids at auction at that time.

Morel is a major league player you won in this auction. He is not eligible for MIN or DRAFT designation--those would be players picked during the most recent or previous FYPD drafts that have not exceeded limits or been promoted to contract (MIN), or minor leaguers that have not exceeded limits or been promoted to contract selected during the Dispersal Draft (DRAFT). In your interpretation of the rule it seems you think it would be OK to bid Mike Trout up to 15 million, win him, and then near the end of the draft DFA him at no cost to you. Then he would be put back in the pool to be won for pennies since owners don't have any money left late in the draft. You could potentially win him back for 5 million. That is not the intention of the DFA rule. It's not a loophole to help owners avoid their unwanted auction wins. MLB players won at auction are not eligible for DFA for free or other wise.

Jax Lucky Cats I agree with that interpretation so I apologize for any confusion on my end. Can you please explain to me how the penalty works for dropping a player during the season? For example I drafted Morel for $500K. If I gave him a 1 year contract what would be the penalty?

Sir Sports. If you assign a one year contract to Morel and the drop him the cost is a mere 250k. You free yourself of 500k in salary but your in year cap reduces down by 250k to 99,750,000.
